At the moment, one of the hottest topics in the world of IT is Internet of Things (IoT). IoT enables devices to communicate independently via the internet and offers an unlimited number of prospects on various levels. No wonder that 4PS software is responding to this new development and that IoT is the central focus of our software testers in the next release.
4PS has a team of testers in place which is fully focused on testing new software developments. A major release takes place three times a year in which newly developed functionality is applied and launched. The extraordinary thing about the coming release, which is scheduled to take place soon, is that IoT plays a central role in it. The major release moments require a lot of focus and attention of the 4PS software testers. The two weeks before the release are not only dedicated to reviewing new functionalities, but also to double checking existing functions and processes.
The most recent development and testing period was special because, for the first time, IoT was actually part of the newly available functionalities. It is expected that IoT, when applied to 4PS products, holds great promises for the future. As a result of this, it will form an important part of the testing process from now on.
Internet of Things
IoT enables devices to communicate independently via the internet. An example of this is a boiler reporting it is not functioning properly or requires maintenance by itself. The 4PS IoT-module, designed specifically for using the data produced by such devices in 4PS products, ties in with this. It allows incidents sent by a device to be saved and have specific actions linked to them. For instance, automatically creating a service call in 4PS Construct when the temperature of a boiler drops below or exceeds a predefined value. This new functionality saves a lot of time, since there is no longer need to perform manual periodical inspections with the device reporting its status by itself. This will enable you to manage your mechanics without having to involve another employee, thus creating a more efficient business operation.
At 4PS, you will not come across a tester looking for a boiler which has just generated a service call. Rather, all test items are (digitally) simulated. This means that the work process is replicated on a computer and there is no need for the tester to leave his work place. The tester merely checks whether the link in the 4PS products is working properly. Using work instructions, the tester follows all appropriate steps and determines whether the product is responding as required.
During this process, it is important to keep the focus on the customer’s business operations. In order to obtain a clear view on this, the tester stays in close contact with either a 4PS consultant or a colleague from the Support department. This close partnership ensures targeted testing and allows customers to take full advantage of the most recent software versions.
