BIM Bridge

BIM. This might be considered as the best initiative within the construction industry. The 3 dimensional Building Information Model (BIM) has been developed for the construction industry with the aim of improving the cooperation between involved parties during the realisation and maintenance of projects. Because of the growth of BIM, the demand for BIM solutions increased. As an innovative IT partner, we wanted to meet these needs. As a result, we present you the 4PS BIM Bridge.

We've bridged the gap between ERP and BIM

Nowadays, the cooperation between involved parties in a building project mainly concentrates on technical level, while there also are many opportunities on operational level. The 4PS BIM Bridge is going to change this, because of the fact that we've bridged the former gap between BIM and ERP. With Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4PS Construct companies are able to read their IFC model in the ERP software and use the data directly from the model in the following process.

The bridge: 4PS Construct - BIM integration

The chain partners involved in the realisation of a project often work with specialised BIM applications. For example specialised to architecture, engineering, steel structures or construction calculations. Each application has its own data silo, what makes it impossible to collect all data in one BIM model or server. We've therefore decided to bridge the gap between our ERP software and BIM. Our solution works with open BIM standards such as IFC and BCF. This makes it possible to unlock and exchange data silos of different BIM parties.

We've build functionality in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4PS Construct that enables our customer to create a BIM model. Next, al the related data can be requested. The picture below shows an example of what the integration looks like in reality.

Vision Microsoft on BIM: HoloLens

Microsoft is developing the HoloLens: world's most advanced holographic computing platform. The smart HoloLens connects reality to virtual reality. It shows holograms that can be manipulated with your hands. The HoloLens is able to realise the integration between holograms and your world. In short: Microsoft HoloLens can enable you to make decisions more confidently, work more effectively, and bring ideas to life before your eyes.

The link between the HoloLens and data from BIM also represents a link between BIM and the reduction of failure costs. This video gives you an impression of the added value that is created by innovative ERP (Microsoft Dynamics NAV) connected to a bussines application (4PS Construct) that's connected to other Microsoft products (HoloLens).

Integration of BIM and ERP: Essential for the Construction Industry

By 2025, the global construction is forecasted to grow by approximately 70%. To manage this growth, the most important growth indicators are those that are central to and should guide changes such as; sustainable building design, lean construction, improved collaboration across the supply chain and decision-making based on complete information. Gaps must be bridged between building projects and technology. The heart of the matter is information and the different ways in which this information can be disseminated to the various disciplines via the appropriate channels. Therefore, it is important to integrate BIM (Building Information Modeling) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning).

Why DBFM contracts drive the demand for integral ERP-solutions

Over the last years, construction companies have seen that governments are seriously promoting the use of DBFM (Design, Build, Finance and Maintain) contracts for their construction and infrastructure projects. In a DBFM contract, a construction company takes responsibility for the full lifecycle of the project: design, build, finance and maintenance. A great opportunity for construction companies. If they are well-prepared.
